Mars in 10th house:

Mars in the 10th house is one of my personal favourite placements. This is the house where a lot of Capricorn energy is concentrated. The focus for these people is career and they often do great at it.

I have usually seen that people with a strong 10th usually end up in government jobs or run their own business. Or, at least, end up in a position of authority.

Sun, Mars, and Saturn are the planets that thoroughly enjoy being in the 10th house. Although Moon is also comfortable here, but these four technically take the cake. Almost every planet, barring Ketu, enjoys being in the 10th house, but, Sun, Mars, and Shani enjoy it the most.

Not only does this house have power, it also has impact of Mars’ exaltation energy, being the natural house of Capricorn. So, as we know, Mars is the fighting power of the person, and, as we've 4th house Mars is not a good Mars. It often creates conflict with the family and make a person a little cowardly. Somebody who shows his aggression and focus towards his house only.

But 10th house Mars is the polar opposite the person is a winner in life, thanks to his Mars. He is a go-getter, a workaholic, a boss figure who is a Commander-in-Chief of his people. These peole like to spend time outside the house and are thrilled by challenges.

So, let's go and check this out for the record. Hindu Scriptures gave this a beautiful name called Kula Deepak yoga. This is your typical overachiever of the family. The guy who is the leading light of the family. This is one of the most coveted yogas in astrology especially for males.

  1. Commander-in-Chief: 10th Mars in the zenith of Mars energy. He is in his best possible placement, so I call him the Commander in Chief. This house contains Mars’ exaltation energy and it's most powerful position. So while Sun in the 10th is the warrior king, Mars in the 10th is the commander in chief. Remember Sun gets his exaltation point in the 1st house as it contains Aries energy. A king is most comfortable on his throne, the 1st house is the throne of the chart. However, a commander in chief is at his best in the field of action, so I consider Sun in 1st as the best placement for Sun and Mars in 10th the best placement for Mars.

Their beauty and tactical genius often comes out in the field of struggle. If you see utter chaos and if you see an army being beaten back-- it could be an army, a family or a business whatever- these people enter the field and the entire dynamic changes.

They turn the tide immediately with their bold decision making, confidence, and tactical genius.  So these guys are the game changers once they are in action there's no stopping them. People love to follow them because they inspire a tremendous amount of confidence, faith, and energy in their troops.

I have also seen this in the yoga in charts of high-ranking army officials who literally have to make life and death decisions in the battlefield. I have seen this in charts of CEOs and  business leaders.

The Go-Getters: 1st house Mars is the go-starter. They would start anything and then get bored and move on. While 10th house Mars usually pics his battles wisely and finishes what it starts.  Capricorn is the sign of finishing. It is the zenith of material success. It is the point where all the material things are delivered and finished and cleaned up so that the soul can have some relaxation and fun in Aquarius and can finally look forward to liberation in Pisces.

Mars here knows what to start, which battles to pick, how to lead the army, and most importantly, what not to start.

So these guys are the go-getters and the go-finishers. These people who lead strategic initiatives and  think in years if not decades, and they are the typical empire builders and commanders who lead their armies to domination.

  1. Rise in Public Life: These guys are built for the public life and often shine at it. They have a flair for taking up big projects and finish them in style. They are not afraid of taking command no matter how much the chaos is or how big the organization is. These are the guys who will dominate their workplace and often the entire industry. Remember Mars brings a certain aggression in the hose where it sits. These guys are not exactly the workplace bullies, but they are the dominant bosses who get things done and have no patience for excuses, laziness and work avoidance. They can come across as aggressive and dominating jerks, but these are the ones who get things done. So they rise very high in their careers and can have great public careers as well right from being a top CEO to a great politician. For some reason these guys don’t last long in bureaucracy which happens to be a Shani Rahu domain. They are much happier when they are in a position to make decisions and do not have go through the red tape.
  2. Bossy: These guys can be bossy, no they are infact very bossy most of the times. Next to Sun, Mars is the most bossy in the house. Remember, whenever Capricorn energy is heavy in the chart, the native tends to be bossy. Particularly if Capricorn falls in 1 or 10, and Capricorn contains Mars or Sun, there is a certain amount of bossiness. The 10th house is the highest point of Capricorn and highest point of Mars exaltation, so it brings a lot of boss energy. However, they are not the copybook corporate bullies.  Their anger is measured and contemplated, and only after being marked in by the boundaries by Capricorn-Shani energy, do they unleash it, and not without a cause. So, they have the ability to win the loyalty of their people. Troops love them but also fear them as well.

  1. Can Have Children Issue and acidity. So, while 10th house March is an amazing placement for career-wise, this is not a great placement when it comes to personal life. It can create problems in terms of progeny because the 8th aspect of Mars, which is a very intense, is aspecting the 5th house of the child and the stomach. So, it can create issues like acidity and can cause problems in child birth. Particularly if placed in a woman's chart.

  1. Can Dominate Family Members: Whenever you have a very heavy 10th house, it is unlikely that you will have a happy childhood. Maybe it is nature’s way of preparing a person to be ready to be a fighter, because if you are fighting to survive as a child, you will thrive as an adult. I have somehow seen people with a 10th house Mars have weak fathers. It is said that, “A man lives only two ways:”

    1. Seeking approval of his father
    2. Trying to avoid his mistakes

These guys usually fall in the second category. They have weak fathers and often uneasy mothers. The home is not very happy place.  The childhood is usually full of turmoil and the father is either ineffective or very laid-back.

9. BOSS BABIES: Due to weak fathers and restless mothers, and an unhappy household, these guys have to take the leadership of the family at a very young age. They become the boss of the household at their teenage somewhere around the age of between 14 and 17. As they grow, this bossiness continues and they take care of business for the rest of their lives. Bossing others around right from the house to the office.

  1. Can Be Workaholics: One thing which is hidden about Mars is the passion and love. So wherever Mars sits, you have a lot of passion and love for that house. Of course you're dominating towards it, but a lot of your energy is focused here. So these guys invariably do well in their careers, provided the rest of the chart supports them. Like Mars the 4th does not wish to leave the house. He's very passionate about doing the household chores and decorating the house. Mars in 10th guys live for their office. Their office is their life, their workplace is their throne. They work the living daylights out of their offices. They're often the first one in and the last ones out. And they're very passionate about the way things run and look. They'd rather buy a better office than a better car. Their intense ambition will make them consider office their holy place and they work with an intense devotion which would put a religious zealot to shame.

Overall, this is a good placement to have in terms of: • Career growth • Public persuasion • Winning • Getting awards and equalities

Although it is not all that great in terms of family life, particularly the child birth is difficult. But these guys often end on a very high position. They are great protectors and providers, the things which Mars is supposed to do.

So, in my book, I would rate it as a very good placement. There is a price to pay, but the victory is totally worth it. You don't get the best of both Shani and Mars without paying the price. And God knows these guys are more than willing to pay the price. Their journey is a typical hero's journey.

God Bless,
